French Corner

Music to our Ears!

The 2024–2025 school year has been a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible talent of our French Immersion students, who performed as a choir for the very first time—participating in both the Community Carol Festival and the 2025 Crowsnest Pass Music Festival.

In December 2024, the children delighted audiences at the Carol Festival with three French Christmas songs, capturing hearts with their joyful performance. Most recently, our French Immersion students at St. Michael’s School earned high praise for their outstanding performance at the Crowsnest Pass Music Festival. They received enthusiastic and encouraging feedback from the adjudicator, Mr. Kirk Muspratt.

Mr. Muspratt, who grew up in the Crowsnest Pass and now resides in Chicago, is recognized as one of the leading conductors of the 21st century. It was a true honor to perform for him and to receive such commendation.

The choir presented a diverse repertoire: a medieval piece in Old French (“Je viroie liement” by Guillaume de Machaut), a Romantic-era lullaby by Johannes Brahms, and a lively French sea shanty by The Dreadnoughts, “Pique la baleine.”

Over the past three months (January–March), the children embraced the joy of singing together and rose to the challenge of learning new French songs, performing each one with enthusiasm, energy, and skill.

We hope you enjoy the videos of their recent performance at the Crowsnest Pass Music Festival (below)!
